Populations affected by armed conflicts experience enormous psychological and social suffering. The psychological and social impacts of emergencies may be acute in the short term, but they can also undermine the long-term mental health and psychosocial well-being of the affected population. These impacts also threaten peace, human rights, and development.

Given the decades that refugees can remain in exile and to better understand the health, mental health, psychosocial and protection needs during and after the current conflict in Ukraine, i-APS is launching a large-scale, systematic, mixed methods study to assess and quantify the baseline needs of those who fled Ukraine and are currently living in refugee settings across Europe. These data will be vital to define and quantify the necessary multi-sectoral approaches to mental health and psychosocial support needed now and for the future.
